Pressed Powder Makeup: properly prepare skin
July 24th, 2007Just as an artist prepares a canvas, so to makeup artists begin by properly preparing the skin. Selecting the right foundation for one’s skin type is the essential first step to the successful application of makeup. Other make-up, such as lipstick and eyeliner, will be enhanced by the selection and correct application of a proper foundation.
Selecting a foundation is a decision each woman must make based on her own skin type and color. What may work for many, does not work for all. There are many types of foundation from which to choose. Selecting a type of foundation is a good first step for successful make up application.
Makeup comes in two forms: liquid makeup and presed powder makeup. Many women find that pressed powder makeup is not as messy as liquid makeup and that it is more convenient to use because it does not require sponge applicators, which need to be replaced. In place of sponge applicators, powder makeup is applied with a beauty brush, such as a kabuki, buffer, or contour brush.
Another advantage of using pressed powder makeup is the convenience. Women can slip a powdered makeup compact in their purse along with a beauty brush or two, and doing touch ups out of the house while on the go is a cinch. While traveling with a powder compact in a purse, one doesn’t need to worry about its content spilling out, which is something one tends to worry about regarding liquid makeup.
Women with oily skin may also find that pressed powder makeup works better for them than liquid makeup. Powdered makeup does a good job of absorbing oily sheen and leaving a more matte face. A lot of high end makeup brand produce pressed powder versions to tackle this problem that may include talc, so be aware of any irritations that may arise for those allergic to talcum.
For the past couple of years, a new type of makeup has emerged and embraced in the makeup world. This type of makeup is marketed as bare cosmetics and it’s usually comprised of minerals and other natural ingredients that do just as well in offering coverage, but all without the skin irritation that comes with most synthetic makeups. Bare cosmetics are a great alternative for those with sensitive skin that are prone to breaking out and suffering from skin problems such as rosacea.
