Plus Size Maternity Clothes Now Easier To Find

February 27th, 2008

Being a BBW (big beautiful woman) and being pregnant poses some special challenges, not the least of these finding plus size maternity clothes. Fortunately, this is not as hard as it used to be. Free-standing stores and online businesses abound who cater to larger women, and there are even bargains for those watching their pennies.

You needed rush out to buy plus size maternity clothes the moment you become pregnant. The biggest changes in your body are generally still several months off. One notable exception, though, may be your bra size, since breasts tend to enlarge much sooner than does the waistline. A smart shopper will invest now in nursing bras, instead of just buying larger sized regular bras. Nursing bras will give you the support you will need through pregnancy, and be very useful once your baby arrives.

It really is a good idea to be fitted by a professional during pregnancy because it’s possible that your new size differs greatly to your previous size. Also, only purchase a few as your shape may change further on into your pregnancy. Even if it has never been an issue before, your breasts may need constant support when you are pregnant therefore it may be an idea to purchase a leisure bra for bedtime.

Don’t buy too many plus size maternity clothes right at first, either. An obviously maternity type of plus size dress may get very old by the end of pregnancy, so don’t go into maternity clothes until you really need to. Plus clothing is often made with some extra “give” or room and will be fine at first. Don’t forget that you will also be wearing maternity clothes for awhile after delivery, so pick some that will work well with nursing.

When you are pregnant, you may find that you tire much more quickly than usual and simply don’t have the energy to get everything done. It makes sense to choose plus size pregnancy clothes that are easy to care for to conserve your “oomph” for things you really want to do. Clothing that needs fussy hand washing or that merits a trip to the dry cleaners when you are worn out won’t seem near so attractive as a cute outfit you can just toss into the washer and dryer.

Like all plus size clothing, maternity clothes in larger sizes tends to be harder to find and more expensive. A good strategy is to try on clothes in a store and when you know what size and brands are good for you, comparison shop online to save money. There are plenty of discount websites and online clearance sales. Large chain department stores may have a better plus size selection for maternity and regular clothes that they have in their stores.

Remember that regular clothing with a loose fit or that has elastic or a drawstring at the waist will also work well into your pregnancy. This option is also more economical as it will be something that you can also use after your pregnancy, as well as saving you money now. Being a BBW doesn’t have to mean that you can’t find nice plus size maternity clothes.
