Omega 3 - The Beneficial Effects

June 16th, 2008

The fatty acids of Omega-3, which are also called n-3 fatty acids, are chemical substances that naturally exist in some types of fats and oils. Since oils containing Omega-3 are among the most important sources of fatty acids, they are highly required for a normal growth. Furthermore, they involve a large number of many other benefits.

The positive effects of Omega 3 oils include: including reducing the risk of thrombotic stroke and heart disease, reducing cholesterol, improving immune system activity, and stimulating blood circulation as well as reducing blood pressure. Omega 3 oils are also connected to positive effects in schizophrenia treatment and has been considered “brain food” for many year.

Although eggs and walnuts are also source of omega 3 oils but fish is renowned one. Mackerel, sardines, anchovies, salmon, and herring, besides tuna to a slighter quantity have major supply of fish oil, which contains the seven times strong omega 3 oil than the other kinds of fish

While the health benefits of consuming omega 3 oils through fish are well documented, the Food and Drug Administration has recently shown concern about heavy metal poisoning in oily fish used to produce omega-3 oils. Arsenic, lead, nickel, mercury, and cadmium are all dangerous heavy metals that may accumulate in cold-water fish. That’s why your source of fish or omega 3 oils is vitally important.

One of the wonderful health benefits of omega-3 fish oils is migraine relief. As mentioned above, one of the effects of omega-3 fatty acids is to reduce blood pressure, which increases blood circulation. According to the vascular theory of migraine headaches, reduced flow of blood in the brain is a trigger event for extreme dilation of blood vessels, leading to leakage and inflammation, which causes the pain associated with headaches. Consumption of omega-3 oils has been linked to reducing the risk of this trigger event by improving blood flow.

Taking Omega-3 fatty acid vitamins is a great way to increase your circulation. In addition, by increasing your intake of foods such as salmon, walnuts, and flax seed, you can reap other benefits as well. The Omega-3 is great for your heart - it reduces triglyceride levels which reduce your risk of having a heart attack. As if that weren’t enough, Omega-3 also serves to break fibrin (which is a compound involved in forming clots and scar tissue). This helps reduce your risk of clotting which could lead to stroke or infarction.

Some of the health benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids are that they help reduce cholesterol, improve activity in the immune system, and lower blood pressure. The oil of fish such as salmon, sardines and herring, are some of the main sources of these fatty acids. A reduction in blood pressure and a consequent improvement in circulation of the blood is one of the many effects of this fatty acid. This may explain the effects of fish oil in migraine relief, since the pain experienced by headache sufferers is caused by dilation of blood vessels, which is triggered by reduced blood flow in the brain.
