Heartbreaking Effects of Childhood Obesity

January 5th, 2008

We all know that childhood obesity is not healthy. You don’t have to look hard to find stories about how fatal this epidemic will be in the near future. The future of these children looks grim, and people are growing afraid. You can’t solve the world’s problems yourself. If you are a parent, the best thing you can do is look at the future of your own child.

The effects of childhood obesity are very dangerous. In fact, there are links to many different diseases from being an obese child. Heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are just a few.

This is not to mention the other effects of childhood obesity. It’s a well-known fact that children can be quite cruel to each other. Any child who is overweight could easily become the butt of jokes. They are frequently teased and tormented.

Being a child that is not accepted, and who is made fun of is miserable. They suffer every single day when no one invites them to birthday parties. No one asks them out to the school dance (”You’re too fat!”). They certainly never get picked for the sports teams.

The more people see the effects of childhood obesity for themselves, the more we can hope that everyone will stand up and help put an end to this epidemic. But today, you can start with your own child when it’s time for dinner. Just by teaching your child the difference between what is healthy for them and what is not, you can begin to develop good eating habits that will reduce or stop childhood obesity. Children look to their parents as teachers and examples to follow. It’s up to you to teach him or her the right eating habits. Your child deserves a better quality of life, and he or she depends on you to provide it and avoid childhood obesity. Don’t sentence your child to a life of sadness and sickness. You can help put a stop to the childhood obesity epidemic by starting with your own child.
