Fashion When You Are Expecting

April 13th, 2008

During pregnancy, comfort is a major priority. Most expectant mothers like to look good as well. The majority of women do not begin to show until they are at least four months along, so you may be able to use your non-maternity wardrobe until then. After four months, however, you will need maternity tops. Baby doll tops and wrap around tops are both functional and fashionable.

When looking for maternity garments, be sure to buy tops made from material that both stretches and breathes. During the summer months, you should also look for fabrics that are moisture absorbing. This will help you stay cooler. If you buy a shirt that irritates your skin, it can cause dryness and itching in the abdominal area, which may mean more stretch marks.

Baby doll tops are the perfect way to cover your growing waistline without sacrificing style or comfort. With the extensive variety of styles and colors, you can find the perfect match for jeans, slacks or skirts. There are long sleeved and sleeveless versions, as well as every length in between, that are suitable for each season’s weather. Baby doll tops usually have an empire waist that seems to float along the frame and adds the illusion of length and slimness to the torso area. It is a fashionable choice that beautifully highlights and flatters the entire frame.

A wraparound blouse enhances a large female’s appearance in the same way that a wrap over frock does, and this is true whether she is expecting or not. It is both fashionable and comfy and coordinates with pants or skirts. You can wear it before you announce your condition and continue to use it once you’ve grown. A solid colored one will tend to be more slimming than one with an all over design. A cotton based fabric is your best bet since cotton allows more passage of air and tends to cause you to perspire less in the summertime. Purchase one with a tie that will be adjustable as the months go by. This type of blouse is appropriate at the office, in a nice restaurant, or for an evening on the town with your pals.

When you start shopping for pregnancy clothing, you have to keep in mind the time of year. If you are expecting in the wintertime and the climate is harsh, you’ll appreciate the warmth of high neck polo shirts and sweaters, as long as they fit loosely. Buy one or more in dark colors like black, navy, or burgundy. When it begins to heat up as you approach the summer, pick up several tee shirts for cooler comfort. If you’re thinking of tank tops, select those which have wide straps which won’t cut into your shoulders and become an annoyance as you grow.
