Effective Methods Of Treatment For Heart Failure And Depression

July 27th, 2008

Congestive heart failure, or CHF, is one of the most commonly found chronic health conditions in the United States. Nearly five million individuals suffer from this disease, and 500,000 others develop CHF every year. This disease may be mild, or it may become quite severe and interfere with daily living.

Individuals with CHF undergo numerous changes from their usual daily routines. They must take drugs to relieve water buildup and to reduce the exertion of their heart muscle. Several of these result in depression and fatigue. These medications may also impair physical intimacy with a life partner.

One other struggle that persons with this disease encounter is the requirement for major diet changes. Many must quit eating beef, stay away from meals with a lot of fat or salt, or restrict the amount of fluids they consume every day. These people are instructed to lose weight and exercise to keep their bodies as fit as possible.

Unfortunately, however, people with CHF no longer possess as much physical endurance as before. Rather, they must stand by as friends and relatives play volleyball, swim, or work out. This causes isolation and loneliness. In addition, many victims grieve losing of physical strength and wellness.

The majority of people who encounter this and are not yet of retirement age must also quit working. As well as causing money problems and depression, this can increase feelings of separation and loneliness. They find themselves alone. Rather than of chatting with the worker at the neighboring workspace, they stare at the television while their friends continue their live.

At times, patients take depression or anxiety drugs to cope with these issues. Others choose psychotherapy or group therapy to help them with fulfilling belongingness needs and processing the grief induced by their freshly changed lifestyles.

A more effective way of dealing with this type of depression, however, has achieved recent recognition and achieved practically immediate popularity among clients who have trialed it. Additionally, unlike drugs or psychotherapy, this approach is quite economical. People are able to learn its use without experiencing further money stresses.

This approach, which involves a blend of Ericksonian hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), aids clients to begin to become calm and seek peace and serenity in the midst of daily life. These techniques assist people to accept the new restrictions in their lives while aiding them to continue living life to the fullest extent that they are able. Even depressed moods that result from medicines can be easily lessened through the proper application of the techniques utilized by hypnosis and NLP. Two such strategies are anchoring and the Flash.

Ericksonian Hypnotherapy is usually referred to as conversational hypnosis. It offers techniques for providing post-hypnotic ideas embedded in a discussion or figure of speech. The benefit of this technique is that it eliminates the subconscious opposition to direct suggestions that is nearly always encountered when using more conventional styles of hypnosis.

Through anchoring, hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners instruct people to focus on happy thoughts and memories where they felt calm and in control. As the client is progressively absorbed by these memories, they are able to experience these emotions once more. The person then creates a concrete anchor for these feelings by placing two fingers in contact with one another. The unconscious mind makes a connection between the actual touch of these two fingers, and the positive feelings. Later, when the client encounters an anxiety-producing or upsetting moment, an anchor is elicited by placing together the two fingers, evoking feelings of peacefulness and tranquility.

The Flash technique is also quite helpful to individuals who are struggling to conquer depression. This approach trains the mind to instantaneously utilize those negative thoughts that are causing anxiety and sadness, as triggers for beneficial thoughts that stimulate relaxation and happiness. Over time, people usually find themselves nearly unable to think negative thoughts!

Summary: Individuals with CHF typically encounter sadness because of mourning the loss of their physical health and well-being. Other elements that sometimes contribute to depression include medications and money worries. Both Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP provide excellent techniques for helping clients to manage sadness without being forced to expend enormous amounts of time and money.
