Choose Your Best Look: How To Be Comfortable And Look Good
December 28th, 2008Every year, you’ll see magazines and websites talking about what’s new this year. However, most of us don’t revamp our wardrobes entirely every year, and most plus size women are used to hanging on to a flattering outfit if we find one. Since you only wear formal or special occasion dresses a few times a year, it’s even more important to find styles that will last, and keep looking great. Here are a few tips to finding long lasting, flattering formal clothes.
Basic body shapes are apple, hourglass, pear, oval, and rectangle. Make sure you know your own shape before shopping for clothing. Different styles flatter different body shapes, and a flattering outfit will remain a staple in your wardrobe much longer than the latest style which really never looked good on you. If a garment has a tiny fitting problem, you might consider alterations. Stay away from trendy styles which are here today and gone tomorrow. Choose more conservative fashions which will remain stylish to wear to many different functions over and over again.
Undergarments and high-heeled shoes make any outfit look more polished and stylish. But, if they are uncomfortable, you won’t wear them. No matter how an outfit looks on you, if you don’t feel good in it, you won’t be happy or relaxed. When you choose clothing, select items that are simple with minimal details and adornments. Classic pieces will never go out of style. The cut of an outfit is very important, also. A basic empire waist, structured top, and A-line design look good on every woman’s body. Bold, solid colors as opposed to flashy patterns, always, complement a female form and are timeless pieces. Be careful, however, that you do not choose colors that make you skin appear sallow, pale or feverish.
Avoid enhancing your problem spots. Sure, that dress looked great on the rack, but if it plays up your abdomen, you could look like an apple! Play up your best features, and be careful to minimize the ones you aren’t so fond of. Tailoring your clothes to personal style and shape is important for everyone, but especially so for plus size women. Paying attention to how clothes look on you could make the difference between a great dress and one that just looks off somehow.
These are just a few tips to help you get a great, flattering style that you’ll be able to wear for more than just a few months. There’s a lot to choose from, and it’s getting easier than ever to find great looking plus size clothes. Just pay attention to how a given dress fits you, and not the latest look.
